I quit _______ in memory of ________ _________

In 2001, in central Kentucky a teenager lost his life in a very freakish accident by falling off a float filled with his football team, cheerleaders, and his sister and mother at the very end of this annual parade.

This 15-year-old, an all American boy, was an awesome athlete, with a very tender, caring heart for his peers, especially those not so gifted. I once saw him take himself out of the batting lineup in a baseball game so a bench-warmer would get to bat.

When I heard that beautiful fall afternoon that he had died my heart dropped.

As a 12 and 13-year-old he played shortstop on one our SMOKING KILLS baseball team of Kentucky in 1998 and 1999.

The next day I went to Lowe's and bought a Bonsai plant for my sons to keep and maintain in remembrance of this fallen future leader and possible hero.

Later I got to wondering how could I remember this young man in a special and intentional way. At that time I had a real desire to quit my addiction to sodas, and it was this day that I made a personal vow to stop drinking sodas as a remembrance to this young man.

Now, over three years later, I am reminded of him whenever someone offers me a coke, pop, or soft drink.

I invite you right now to consider making a vow to halt a habit or addiction that might be detrimental to your life as a remembrance to someone that you have lost whom you loved dearly.
